- * Prerequisites/extra costs
- The numbers in this column correspond with the requirement numbers in the Merit Badge book or the BSA Requirements Book. Please be aware of any requirement changes that may be in effect this year!
With the exception of Archery, Rifle Shooting, and Shotgun Shooting Merit Badges, the "Advanced" Rifle and Shotgun programs, and OA Brotherhood Class, amounts in this column are approximate costs for kits and materials to complete that Merit Badge. Program materials kits and tickets will be available in the Camp Joy Trading Post. Remember that if you are taking a class/program that has extra fees or costs you are responsible for bringing the appropriate amount money to Summer Camp and spending it wisely! If you blow your money on Gobstoppers™ at the Trading Post and don't have enough left over to pay for your Basketry kits you will not earn the Merit Badge.
- 1 B.S.A. Lifeguard
- You must be at least 14 years old or have finished 8th grade. Must have abilities equivalent to Swimming, Rowing, Canoeing, Lifesaving & First Aid Merit Badges. Must be able to swim 400 yards using a long stroke. Must bring long sleeve button down shirt, long pants, and shoes. Must bring CPR Certification with you to camp. You must talk to the Waterfront Director to arrange for this activity. BSA Lifeguard Class will meet during all daytime class periods.
- 2 Project COPE
- Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience is a challenge ropes course designed for Scouts who are 13 and older to participate in a series of challenges that will help them with teamwork, problem solving, decision making, and self esteem. The COPE program starts with "low challenges" and ends with the "high course" and Camp Joy's exciting Zip Line.
- 3 Valiant Quest
- The Camp First Year Camper program. Scouts in Troop 53 who are Scout and Tenderfoot ranks will be automatically signed up for the First Class portion of this program.
